What to check before installing a restaurant booking plugin
WordPress compatibility
“Tested up to” shows the newest WordPress version the developer has checked. A plugin that is several major versions behind may break after a core update — right when guests are trying to book.
Active maintenance
Regular releases mean bugs, PHP changes and security reports get fixed. No update for 6+ months is a warning sign; WordPress.org flags plugins not tested with the last 3 major releases.
Security record
Every popular plugin gets vulnerability reports. What matters is that they are fixed quickly and that the version you install has no open issues. Always run the latest version.
Will the service still exist?
Some plugins are only a front-end for an external service. If that service shuts down, your booking form stops working — plan the switch early.
